Kingdom Baptist Church History April 12, 1998 to Present Kingdom Baptist Church was started by the Spirit of God through His servant Elder Kenneth A. Brown, Sr. Brown began his ministry serving as the Youth Pastor and eventually the Assistant to the Pastor at the New Chapel Baptist Church, under the leadership of its Founding Pastor, Rev. William Hill. Elder Brown, prayed, planned and studied for two years and was sent forth in ministry under the spiritual guidance of Pastor Hill. After continually conferring with his wife Phyllis and two sons, Kenneth, Jr. and Xavier McKenzie (Isaiah was not born until 2003), the Brown's made plans to start the Church. During the winter of 1997, the Spirit provided revelation. He spoke to Brown to execute God’s vision for him to start a new ministry in Waldorf, MD. After three days of intense prayer, God showed Brown a precise plan for His new ministry – Kingdom Baptist Church. God spoke and the first worship service was planned for Easter Sunday, April 12th, 1998. In keeping with His promise, the Lord gave favor to the Church to have worship services at the Days Inn Hotel, just off US Highway 301. The hotel had just renovated to add a new conference room to its' facilities a few weeks prior to Kingdom starting. And, as the Spirit would have it, just after Kingdom relocated from the hotel, the conference room was converted back into hotel rooms. The Lord saw fit that the Church and Pastor were featured with full articles in many of local newspapers as the new Church was being announced to the community. Such newspapers were: the Washington Post, the Maryland Independent, the Washington Afro-American, the Prince George’s Journal and the Prince George’s Post. More than 70 people filled the small Days Inn Conference room and folks aligned in the hall to share in the Church’s new beginning. The new members of the Church quickly began to create its' infrastructure during two days of intense business meetings on June 5-6, 1998. There the Church’s by-laws and constitution were created. Kingdom’s Three-Point Ministry Focus was created. Kingdom’s mission would be 1.) Evangelize for God’s Glory as much as possible 2.) Build Strong Families throughout our programming and activities and 3.) ensure that we always have strong Christian Educational activities at all times. The Church’s first elected officers included, Deacon Kenneth Stewart, Chair (current Pastor of Body of Christ Church, Waldorf, MD), Brother Andrew Taylor, Chair of Trustees and Deacon John and Mrs. Lisa Jones, Ms. Joanne Gaines, Sister Davita Stewart (wife of Kenneth) and Sister Jackie Estep all provided strong leadership to this inner core of founding members. The Church continued to grow and prosper. Bible Studies were held weekly in the homes of members. It was within that intimate environment the Kingdom’s ministry began to take form. Even with limited resources and space, Kingdom was able to provide missions support to the community, serving disadvantaged families monthly providing food, clothes and shelter. Kingdom’s passion for Christian Education was apparent through Pastor Brown’s sermons, new members training and frequent seminars. In 1999, Pastor and Leadership, being convinced of the need to link with other like minded Baptist affiliates, Kingdom became a part of the great fellowship of Churches with the Potomac Baptist Association and the District of Columbia Baptist Convention. The Church continued to grow and the Deacon’s ministry began to look for a new location. On Sunday, September 5th, 1999, Kingdom moved its’ location to a small two story, four suite office building – 80 Industrial Park Drive, Waldorf, MD. Kingdom began by renting one of the suites for its sanctuary and a small office on the second floor for administration. By the end of 2001 Kingdom has occupied the entire building. As the ministry continued to provide more outreach programs to the community, the Lord made it clear to Pastor Brown that the Church was to move it's worship services to a local elementary school. So, on Sunday, May 4th, 2003, Kingdom held its first worship services at Dr. Mudd Elementary School. The Church still maintained its occupation of the office building, better known as the Church Annex, which housed Administrative staff, Outreach and Christian Education. It was during this season that the leadership of the Church began conducting several studies to acquire property. The time worshipping at the school was prosperous, but the leadership of the Church desired to find a single location for the Church while continuing to save and research property for the church. After nearly two years of worshipping at Dr. Mudd, Kingdom relocated to its present location in northern Waldorf, MD. On Sunday, November 28th, 2004, Kingdom held its first worship service in its new location, 2574 Business Park Court.
